Lance's Right shines on its 1st WSL event
The perfect reef break fired up 4foot waves and Kian Martin scored high barrels.
Dream destination for any surfer, Lance's Right is a right target for the Mentawai Surf Charters boats. If the swell indicates the correct direction, our boats will point that way.
In its first year as a World Surf League (WSL) Qualifying Series (QS) 1,000 event, the perfect reef break of Lance's Right has been completed in firing four foot waves.
Representing the Mentawai Surf Charters team was our wunderkind, Kian Martin. At his 14 years old and with five seasons in the Mentawais aboard our boats, Kian went wave for wave against much older opponents. In an action packed heat against Blake Levett, from Australia, Kian showed nerves of steel surfing deep barrels and maneuvering with precision. Kian achieved the 17th place in the ranking of the event in his first participation of a QS.
"I love this wave so much so it's so cool to compete here," Martin said. "I have been here eight times now and it doesn't get any better than this place, just barrels and big turns, it has it all. I was kind of nervous competing against all these older guys but I really came here to have fun and having the chance to have another half-an-hour out here with a couple of guys will be amazing."
We are proud of you Tikus! Keep rocking!
